How To Help Typhoon Sendong Survivors

HELP CDO & ILIGAN.

December 16th, 9P.M. until 12MN: I got stranded in the city proper of Cagayan de Oro City. December 17th, 4A.M. to 5A.M.: ambulance vans, fire trucks and military trucks were all rushing to help survivors, collect dead bodies & save people crushed under hazardous billboards all over the city. 5A.M. to 6A.M.: I took refuge in the cathedral, waiting for the flash flood in the nearby bridge to subside so that I could rush to Bulua to get my grandmother. Unfortunately, no one was answering at home. I was resolute on my mission to get my grandma out of the calamity zone because she gets really crazy and confused even without cataclysmic events. >_<

I found myself humming an old song that goes, Don’t it always seem to go; that you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone. They paved paradise and put up a parking lot…” while thinking that I’ll get my Lola rain or shine, by cab or on foot… but hopefully, not dead or alive… 0_o And in between mantras and prayers, I just kept singing: “They paved paradise and put up a parking lot…” Ohai. Ohai. T_T … It pains me that I had to fly out of CDO at this period of great calamity. However, I had to ascertain the safety of my grandma who already suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. :’(

The indiscriminate and mindless mining activities all over Mindanao; the crazy deforestation for real estate development; the extremes of wealth & poverty which drive the masses to squat in industrial river areas & sea lines just to be near employment; supposedly beautiful subdivisions & prime properties built on top of deforested mountains & delta areas; hazardous billboards used to cover up the vile truth called povertySadly, we simply had it coming.

Information Gatekeepers: Please let the public fully comprehend and absorb how it was all but a matter of time given how companies, MNCs & surrounding communities treat the environment — all in the name of “progress” and “economic growth” in Philippines. Are we really still surprised this happened to us? Haaaai. When will we Earthlings ever learn? Mother Earth has a way of naturally cleansing Herself of too much toxins… if we treat nature like shit, we humans are bound to get flushed out too. :’/

On the brighter side of things: Pinoys have, yet again, proven their resilience and good humour while coping with another major disaster. But the local governments clearly still have no pre-disaster and disaster mitigation plans in place. It’s appallingly preposterous! #WTF-Pnoy. At any rate, here’s a summary of how you can help the victims of Typhoon Sendong. MyLittleWays has done a fantastic job gathering all of the information below from Twitter & Facebook.

——————————

Organized by type of donation.

For donations for Person With Different Abilities (PWDs) affected by Typhoon Sendong, De La Salle - College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) is accepting donations in kind & in cash.

  • In kind donations could be dropped off at the DLS-CSB Taft campus.  Please tell the guards the donations are for PWDs.
  • For cash donations please deposit through the DEAF BENILDEANS MULTIPURPOSE COOPERATIVE BPI Vito Cruz C/A 2771-0017-02.

Would appreciate it if you could also text 09178698231, if you made a deposit, and indicate your name and amount sent. Remember PWDs would have more difficulty in getting access so we are earmarking specific donations for them.

Super thanks! La Salle Iligan is also accepting inkind donations for PWDs.
