Interesting. I didn’t know about this place either! I wonder if the owners are open to letting the local youth utilise the area for alternative education initiatives. Hmmm… :)

Unlike the other golf courses situated here in South Central Mindanao that are considered to be tourist attractions of the region, there is a silent and undiscovered golf course in South Cotabato. A hidden course of 54 hectares land nestled beneath Brgy., Paraiso’s rolling hills in the City…

One of my resolutions this year is to plan local trips and to try to share the beauty of the Philippines to the world. I mean, I’ve so many travel entries on different countries… so don’t you think it’s a little odd that I don’t have any ones that promote the Philippines? My own country?

I…

The critical security threats to our marine resources here in Philippines are depressingly real. We don’t have enough soldiers, let alone, competitive technology and equipment, to protect our immensely rich marine life. A comment from today’s news (http://news.yahoo.com/philippine-navy-standoff-chinese-ships-015620064.html):

“Eight Chinese fishing boats Illegally fishing for endangered species and destroying the marine environment at Scarborough Shoal — at what looks to be about 500 nautical miles from China — well outside any internationally agreed zone - oh, I forgot, China does not respect international laws or treaties unless they benefit China. But China is bigger so they can take whatever they want, send their warships into the territories of other countries, and bully anyone who dares speak up against them. What’s next? Are the Chinese going to claim the Hawaiian islands as “their 5000 years ago” property? Maybe they will try to take Okinawa back from Japan. After all, China ruled Okinawa during the middle ages.”

My thoughts as a realist: Of course, China can. But it most likely won’t. Hawaii and Okinawa have less resources compared to the entire Philippine archipelago. So why bother bullying those areas? xD
China has more than 1.3 BILLION people. They have the world’s largest army. They practically own the United States… So, while there are still people ridiculously claiming that there is such a thing as overpopulation in Philippines - without understanding the difference between “overdensity” and “overpopulation”, and the reality that the NSO figures on our *official* population (95.8 million++) are far, far different from the *ACTUAL* population (around 70 million only) because LGUs want bigger cuts from the IRA (pork barrel), and thereby tremendously bloating local population figures annually - China continues to bully its way to do what it wants even if it tramples on our national sovereignty. So why aren’t Filipinos rallying its power against China? Perhaps because most Filipinos would rather spend their precious time looking good (in the sense that they feel like they can do something when they only have to bully fellow Filipinos - and not Big China, hehehe!), inanely still debating over population control issues, which make them feel more in control instead of feeling helpless. O:So, what to do? Even if we are to peg our total Philippine population to a fictitious 100 million, that would still be less than 10% of China’s ACTUAL population to date. Is it a good reason for the ASEAN to promote its unity to merely prepare to fight China? I reckon that such a move will only slow down China’s great destiny of being a huge contributor to world unity and global prosperity. It is no accident that the Chinese are good in math, and that they are great in business. There is also a momentum in the richness of their culture. China is not a stranger to invasion and deception. Over the centuries, China has had its share of invaders and enslavers. Do we want to have a model of unity, that will simply fight a newly resurgent China? Or would we rather embrace China as a brother? as a friend? And give due recognition to its unique role to global prosperity? There will be aberrant behaviours on the part of China along the way - but it is part of the process. Throughout all this, education is the one thing that will enable people to bring out the best within themselves. And bring that to bear on global development and prosperity. Perhaps we can send more Filipino English teachers - instead of just soldiers and diplomats - to relate with China. Education is always the best way to cultivate virtues of love, oneness of humanity, respect, cooperation, and the like. #RantOver#NationalSecurity #WorldPeace

MEAN WORLD SYNDROME
Violent images inundate the media…
CHILDREN SEE:
8,000 murders by the end of elementary school.
200,000 murders by age 18.
Those who consume more media are more likely to perceive the world as a more frightening and scary place than it actually is.
The good news? It’s not a mean world.
And like what I always say to people who irrationally fear Mindanao because of how ze mass media portrays zees bountiful and beautiful region of ze Philippine archipelago: More people die senseless deaths in Manila everyday because of extreme hunger and desperate robberies. And I most seriously would not be beach bumming, struttin’ my golden ass every weekend - and yes, even some weekdays - if I had good reasons to fear zat Mindanao ees a place full of mean terrorists!! LOL :)) Not only do I get to support small-scale entrepreneurs & promote local tourism, I also get to relax my mind, body and soul without having to worry about getting lost in a strategically-designed mall, and then leaving with a bunch of stuff I didn’t originally want and maybe didn’t even need. xD
Seriously? Terrorism is not what I fear in Mindanao. More than terrorists and rebels, what we must vigilantly look out for are the local and foreign business entities who are ceaselessly raping the seas and forests everyday to make millions via mindless mining, industrial agriculture, industrial fishing, etc. while you guys sit there in front of your TVs getting brainwashed how scary it is to explore the gems of Mindanao. In reality, those who pay millions for those TV commercials ”news” just don’t want you to discover how beautiful Mindanao is. Because if YOU KNEW, you would actually go out there to defend the forests and seas in order to secure zat even ze future generations of children will live to see nature’s pristine beauty without having to shell out wads of cash (and worse, CREDIT) just to access exclusive, world-class resorts and other man-made attractions. Sometimes, I think T.V. really stands for “truth vacuum” and not television. :P
As we all know, a vacuum is created by an emptiness caused by the removal or the absence of matter. In viewing the actions of our government, the mainstream mass media and particularly individuals within the public sector, that missing matter is truth.
Try ditching your TV, Facebook & Tumblr every now and then. Quite ironically, you are reading this BECAUSE of either Facebook or Tumblr. LOL :P But then again… Experience the world through your own eyes and not through the eyes of others. Think with your own mind and not through the mind of your neighbours. And then you shall see how there’s more to love than to hate about this world that we live in. :)Love & Light,

How To Help Typhoon Sendong Survivors

HELP CDO & ILIGAN.

December 16th, 9P.M. until 12MN: I got stranded in the city proper of Cagayan de Oro City. December 17th, 4A.M. to 5A.M.: ambulance vans, fire trucks and military trucks were all rushing to help survivors, collect dead bodies & save people crushed under hazardous billboards all over the city. 5A.M. to 6A.M.: I took refuge in the cathedral, waiting for the flash flood in the nearby bridge to subside so that I could rush to Bulua to get my grandmother. Unfortunately, no one was answering at home. I was resolute on my mission to get my grandma out of the calamity zone because she gets really crazy and confused even without cataclysmic events. >_<

I found myself humming an old song that goes, Don’t it always seem to go; that you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone. They paved paradise and put up a parking lot…” while thinking that I’ll get my Lola rain or shine, by cab or on foot… but hopefully, not dead or alive… 0_o And in between mantras and prayers, I just kept singing: “They paved paradise and put up a parking lot…” Ohai. Ohai. T_T … It pains me that I had to fly out of CDO at this period of great calamity. However, I had to ascertain the safety of my grandma who already suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. :’(

The indiscriminate and mindless mining activities all over Mindanao; the crazy deforestation for real estate development; the extremes of wealth & poverty which drive the masses to squat in industrial river areas & sea lines just to be near employment; supposedly beautiful subdivisions & prime properties built on top of deforested mountains & delta areas; hazardous billboards used to cover up the vile truth called povertySadly, we simply had it coming.

Information Gatekeepers: Please let the public fully comprehend and absorb how it was all but a matter of time given how companies, MNCs & surrounding communities treat the environment — all in the name of “progress” and “economic growth” in Philippines. Are we really still surprised this happened to us? Haaaai. When will we Earthlings ever learn? Mother Earth has a way of naturally cleansing Herself of too much toxins… if we treat nature like shit, we humans are bound to get flushed out too. :’/

On the brighter side of things: Pinoys have, yet again, proven their resilience and good humour while coping with another major disaster. But the local governments clearly still have no pre-disaster and disaster mitigation plans in place. It’s appallingly preposterous! #WTF-Pnoy. At any rate, here’s a summary of how you can help the victims of Typhoon Sendong. MyLittleWays has done a fantastic job gathering all of the information below from Twitter & Facebook.

BANAUE RICES TERRACES, IFUGAO PROVINCE, PHILIPPINES.

The Ifugao Rice Terraces: The 8th wonder of the world. Carved on the mountain side by hand, an engineering marvel and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Ifugao tribespeople 2000 to 3000 years ago carved these terraces out of the hillside without the aid of machinery to provide level steps where the natives plant rice. And they are still in use today. ^_^

Awesome Photos by my Singaporean dad JD Jiang!

What makes a human being a human being?

One of my most favourite human beings, my guardian soul and my most beloved educator Nathan Rutstein once asked me this question over and over again. He also said, “Andrea, you can forget everything else…but you have to remember this one line…whatever happens, if you know this line by heart, you’ll always be fine.”

Human beings are souls with bodies; not bodies with souls.

He made me recite this verse over and over again. And I did. The wisdom as to why he made me memorise this one line by heart is priceless. It’s healed me many times over… and yet my heart still hurts and I cry sometimes when I remember Nat.

Today, I dreamt about him again…

There was a heated discourse. People were arguing about women’s reproductive health. One side argued that every woman as a human being had every right to do what she wants with her body; many people were agreeing… And then I heard Nat’s voice: “Human beings are souls with bodies; not bodies with souls.” My heart stood still. In my geekasmic somniloquy, I then reflected out loud: So all this debate about human dignity is rather pointless unless more people understand on an individual level what it means to be a human being?

I woke up. Started writing. And now I’m late for work. Ciao for now.

Anonymous asked: Do you have any review about Bo Sanchez? Is he real or a hoax?

Hi there! Bo Sanchez is one of the good guys in Finance. And yes, he’s for real. :) If you are into the Spiritual Side of Money from the Catholic or Christian perspective, I would highly recommend that you join his community in a regular event they call The FEAST.

Naturally, if you attend Bo’s various seminars and/or join his Truly Rich Club, there are one-time admission fees and/or monthly membership fees that range from about P500 to P10,000.

If you are an Independent Seeker, a person of another Faith, an agnostic, an atheist, or still a Catholic or Christian but would like to cut to the chase and get straight down to business: You can choose to directly attend the series of seminars on financial literacy at the IMG Wealth Academy in Makati City. This is the same financial system used by Bo Sanchez.

Each IMG seminar is about 1-2 hours. You can finish the first three seminars all within a day if you go on a weekend or a holiday; otherwise, during regular weekdays, you can finish two seminars at the most. Everybody has to start with Series 1 (Practical Money Management Strategies) regardless of background or profession.

The first three finance seminars are free of charge, but you have to RSVP at least a week ahead. Only the higher series of seminars are exclusive to IMG Associates.

Once you are ready to start investing, you have the option to get your own IMG Broker License, which is about US$90 or Php3,800. With that, you can immediately apply what you will have learned from the finance seminars; and start building your personal investment portfolio with no need for a third party or a middleman. With no extra charge, you also have the option to attend all the IMG Wealth Academy seminars and meet some of the best financial planners of Philippines, exclusive to IMG Associates.

Either way, should you choose to attend Bo’s seminars, it will still boil down to applying what you will have learned about building a solid financial foundation for Wealth Accumulation and Management, and that means taking advantage of the IMG System to maximise the growth of your investments.

If you live outside Manila, you may email me directly at drei.toledo at gmail dot com ~ I hope this information helps.

Sincerely,

Drei ze Dork Lord :)

“Art is the biggest unregulated market in the world apart from drugs… art is no longer appreciated based on its critical perspective but rather on the price tag.” - Robert Hughes

Money is the greatest motivator in this world, and unfortunately, art, despite its supposedly lofty ideals, is no longer an exception.
“Grayground” (graphite, oil, acrylic on canvas, 60 inches by 155 3/4 inches), as seen in the photo above, is a painting by the Filipino artist Ronald Ventura. It recently sold for a staggering 46.9 million Philippine pesos, or nearly 1.1 million U.S. dollars. This is a record-setting price for Ventura as an artist and for any Contemporary Southeast Asian Painting at auction.
I have rather mixed feelings about this. I am certain that Ventura, like Pacquiao, will have a big impact on the Philippine pool of talents, adding pride to being Filipino. However, to a certain extent, the philosophical implication of some art auctions remind me of the penetrating gaze and sharp wit of the late Bobi Valenzuela, one of the most influential curators in Contemporary Philippine art since the 1970s. Sir Bobi, strangely enough, never really took art seriously. He once quipped how he found it too ridiculous “that art will just be ultimately consigned to the empty walls of a bored housewife’s mansion.” In hindsight, he also lamented how some artists he used to work with either continued to deteriorate only to ultimately lose their luster.
In the latter years of Sir Bobi’s life, he expressed how he was already too tired to ponder what was going on in the art scene. To which he adds, “Our misfortune is the lack of credible artists these recent years… They are in the arts either for quick fame or easy money. You start repeating yourself and that’s the start of your end.”

NOTHING IS ORIGINAL. To a certain extent, everybody steals. From Picasso to Ventura, and every other great artist, for sure we have all stolen ideas from somewhere. Some people say that the key is to never reveal one’s source or one’s inspiration. In other words, don’t steal and tell.
If you were to ask me: What is the best occupation for the Grandest Theft of Ideas in art? I’d say, while you’re an established artist, the best way to never run out of fresh ideas is to work as a teacher in a good School of Fine Arts! Think of Einstein and how he was working as a patent clerk when he formulated The Special Theory of Relativity.
For one, any creative person who merely copies ideas from other famous artists will not be able to establish the illusion of originality. And no matter how good you are, if you do not steal from others, you’ll eventually risk losing your “X Factor” if curators can see there’s nothing new about your works. So I say, it is best to steal from an obscure creative, like that talented student in your class whose goddamit-where-does-he-get-his-ideas kind of artwork made you swear to yourself his name will never make it to the limelight like you! Persuade him that his “own style” is not “fit for fine arts” and require him to produce good imitations of, duh, famous art works; including that of your own, because you too are already famous in your own right.
As soon as you land another grand exhibit, use your awesome student’s original concepts and techniques, integrate his ideas with your old style, and VOILA! Your work has “evolved” and it has so many layers of mystery, a reflection of your depth, some critics say, and YOU shall be celebrated by the world…
Naturally, that student hears about the great news too… he then looks at the paintings you exhibited… and he sees… with a broken heart… and he knows exactly where you stole your new ideas from.
The only main differences are: You already have a name in the art industry; he doesn’t. You have access to all the best publicity and thus be the first to claim originality; he only has his conscience and his classmates in art school to know, deep in their hearts, who made what first. Your signature is worth millions; your student only got a passing grade. Your work is an expensive clone and a cool hybrid of sorts; but the soul you thought you stole will always be his, and that’s priceless.
His greatest fear is neither repeating himself nor that you stole his ideas; it is that he might end up just like you. He fears that too much money will make him lose critical perspective; that he might get caught up in the meaningless rat race of spewing works that will “sell” simply because it has his signature; not because it comes from his own heart and soul.
Only now do I understand why he has that strange habit of not signing his works. And now I kind of wonder what the Art World would be like if it were the integrity and quality of ideas and not signatures that determine the price tag of paintings. It’s rather naïve, but I reckon art auctions would become even more exciting if the bidders HAD ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA which artist made what. And only after they bid like crazy, spending hundreds of thousands, if not millions, will the buyers be given the chance to meet the artist who created such magnum opus!
P.S. Don’t get me wrong. I value money. And I believe artists and scientists, like every other person, should make decent money to sustain creativity. But above cash, I value excellence and ethics. The day art enthusiasts finally look for soul instead of mere signatures will be the happiest day of living in the Age of Art and Heart! That will also be the day I will celebrate an artist’s achievement, not because of his nationality, but because of his humanity.

A Review of John Calub’s “Attracting Wealth” Seminar

“Either you think - or else others have to think for you and take power from you, pervert and discipline your natural tastes, civilize and sterilize you.” F. Scott Fitzgerald

Is John Calub, the “Wealth Guru” & Motivational Speaker from Philippines, for REAL or is he a Big Hoax?

Just this December 4th, I attended John Calub’s seminar entitled ‘Attracting Wealth: “How To Program Your Mind For Success in 21 Days”’. There were 2,000 participants, each paying either the discounted rate of Php 3,000 ($70) or the full ticket price of Php 8,000 ($185) which, in Philippine currency, is considered to be on the expensive side for an 8AM-6PM workshop. I heard about him only last month and thus decided to see for myself what his program was all about since a few friends were inviting me to try it out.

As an investigative journalist, health researcher and an Associate Financial Planner, personally, I would not recommend ANYONE who seriously wants to achieve both financial and spiritual abundance to attend John Calub seminars. Below are the TOP 5 REASONS why John Calub is not your best bet for achieving financial freedom:

1.) John Calub executes his “Attracting Wealth” seminar though an Über GRAND SHOW with strobe lights and smoke machines.

Real deal and credible mentors in finance like Noel Arandilla, Rex Mendoza and Randell Tiongson have helped - and continue to help - hundreds of thousands of Filipinos achieve their dreams and financial freedom without the need for hypnosis, brainwashing, disco lights and smoke machines.

Only so-called wealth gurus who have very little substantial ideas for building solid financial (and even spiritual) wealth, i.e. John Calub, will resort to fancy distractions such as strobe lights and dreamy smoke machines to impress - if not to hypnotize - those from the audience who are highly impressionable. (NOTE: Strobe light hypnosis works on highly suggestible individuals when lights flash at 60 Hz; and thus the brain will tend to slow down until it’s in alpha state.)

When it comes to learning more about the LAW OF ATTRACTION, people are better off buying their own copies of self-help and motivational books; going online and learning through awesome programs offered by websites such as http://www.simpleology.com/; and taking charge in managing their own financial investments with the help of revolutionary financial advisers.

2.) “The Secret” is not the answer to unlocking the so-called infinite potential of both man and the Universe. Over-optimism is just another word for DELUSION. Watch this RSA Animate video to more clearly understand why too much of anything, including that of positive thinking, can lead to disastrous results. At the end of the day, we must exercise a balance between idealism and realism, or what I personally call “IDEAREALISM”. As Ayn Rand once said, “Facts cannot be altered by a wish, but they can destroy the wisher.” And beyond repulsion, I am deeply disgusted as to how a man like John Calub can charge so much money and merely promote wishful thinking instead of critical thinking. And if there is anything people should UNLEARN, it is that of blindly following ideas and authorities.

3.) EXPENSIVE DREAMS & CHEAP FOOD: John Calub claims that he is a “multi, multi, multi, multi-millionaire”; he charged a minimum of Php 3,000 per participant, making a gross profit of at least 6 MILLION pesos for the December 4th “Attracting Wealth” seminar alone; but he served participants who paid GOOD MONEY for this seminar SPOILED LUNCH (stinky adobo chicken and low-grade rice in a cheap styro) and a super lame and soggy sandwich for snacks.

NO REAL MULTI, MULTI, MULTI, MULTI-MILLIONAIRE would risk his credibility for an expensive “Attracting Wealth” program by serving CHEAP, DISGUSTING, SPOILED FOOD to his participants.

What possible questions can one raise with this kind of mediocrity? One, is John Calub himself so desperate to pocket every single peso he can from this seminar to pay off his own debts because of his excessively luxurious lifestyle, which can - DUH - only lead to debt in the long run? Two, if he boasts that he likes wearing his Php 500,000 ($11,500) Versace coat and spends at least Php 40,000 ($920) for a pair of shoes, why can’t he serve decent food to his participants if money is no issue to him at all? (NOTE: Google Nicolas Cage and his filing for bankruptcy and Warren Buffet, one of the richest men in the world’s very simple lifestyle.)

Freedom is connected with Debt Elimination for each individual. John Calub’s series of Dream Board and Dream Book suggestions of what people must visualize to attain (e.g. mansions, yachts, jets, branded clothes, jewelry, expensive cars, etc.) will only certainly drive more people into debt because of the hidden costs (for maintenance, taxes, insurance, etc.) of such acquisitions. Bottomline: That man is richest whose pleasures are cheapest.

4.) The Battle for Your Mind: Persuasion and Brainwashing Techniques Being Used On The Public Today. John Calub dedicated more than an hour of his seminar advertising his newest seminar (for another 3,000 to 8,000 Philippine pesos) about “ULTRA-MAGNETIC PERSUASION: How To Become A Master Influencer” (Want to know how you can get everybody to say YES to you?).

When John Calub asked the 2,000-strong audience that day as to who wanted to learn absolute control over others so they will always get a YES (and never again to get a NO) from people, I was able to witness the most horrifying sight that reminded me of Nazi Germany: About 98% of all the people there raised their hands and screamed “YES!”

Here’s the rub: What can truly empower people is not CONTROL over the minds of others but sincere love and respect for humanity. Though I come from a family of very persuasive leaders, speakers and intellectuals, I am proud to say that I NEVER ENGAGE WITH MIND CONTROL. With all my heart, mind and soul, I welcome REJECTIONS and OPPOSITION. I handle OBJECTIONS fair and square. I do so because only an environment with unconditional love promotes critical thinking. Unconditional love means that even if we have the upper hand when it comes to knowledge, information and skills, we must respect other people and allow them to exercise their own volition when it comes to processing the ideas and suggestions presented to them. John Calub robs people - most especially those who are highly impressionable - of their basic human right to CHOOSE with their own FREE WILL.

The extremes of wealth and poverty all over the world is a direct result of man’s obsession over CONTROL. Control is one of the many tentacles of greed and lust for power.

As I sat there observing almost everyone brainlessly raising their hands in support of John Calub’s offer to teach them how to PERSUADE people to always say YES, John Calub slowly started morphing into Hitler before my dreamy eyes…thanks to the fancy smoke machines and strobe lights! LOL. :))

5.) And last but not the least, here is the scientific explanation behind the “firewalk mystery” of John Calub’s THE FIREWALK BOOTCAMP : Mastering The Laws of Prosperity To Fireproof Your Dreams (which goes for another Php 25,000 per participant for the April 2011, 3-Day Workshop). The mind-over-matter myth behind firewalking has even been scientifically busted by Discovery Channel’s MythBusters.

I can definitely drop more info bombs for the ultimate kill, but I’ll leave it to just 5 reasons since I believe that if you have already been under the spell, ergo, you have already been fully brainwashed by John Calub, NO AMOUNT OF LOGIC will penetrate your poor skull.

So, yeah. LOL :)) I’ll stop here. This is more than enough to encourage CRITICAL THINKING among those of you out there with stronger hearts, minds and souls.

FREEDOM FROM DEBT!

FREEDOM FROM POVERTY!

FREEDOM FROM MIND CONTROL!

FREEDOM FROM JOHN CALBU, este, JOHN CALUB! :P
